SkyLife Chronicles began as a notebook. In 2017 I started writing up every birding trip in detail — the target species, the misses, the unexpected finds, the cafes worth stopping at. By 2019 the notebook had become a website, and somewhere along the way it found an audience of people who care about birds as much as I do.
I'm Alex Mercer — Melbourne-based wildlife photographer, occasional tour guide, and obsessive birding lister somewhere north of 3,400 species. I've watched birds on every continent except Antarctica (it's on the list). My photography has appeared in Australian Birdlife, BBC Wildlife, and the Guardian's "Country Diary."
If a site was disappointing or a piece of gear let me down, I say so.

Birding is for everyone. I try to write for beginners and experienced listers equally.
I work with conservation organisations, eco-lodges, and birding tour operators on a selective basis. All collaborations are disclosed. If you'd like to discuss a partnership, please use the Contact page.
