A large, pheasant-sized passerine. Males are unmistakable during display: spectacular lyre-shaped outer tail feathers frame a fan of delicate filamentaries. Brown above, rufous on the throat. Females are similar but lack the ornate tail. Length 74–103 cm including tail.
